Rudnja

Rudnja is situated at a distance of 63 km from Smolensk. It is the most western town in the Smolensk region. The boundary with Byelorussia is behind it. Rudnja became a town in 1926. It was a village before, which has been mentioned since the XIV century.

Michael Egorov, who set up the Banner of Victory on the Reichtag with Meliton Kantaria on April 30 in 1945, was born in the Village Ermoshenki of the Rudnja district. There is a memorial museum to the honored citizen of Smolensk and Berlin M.A. Egorov in Rudnja. The history museum in Rudnja is worth visiting as well.

The Village Lubavichi is situated at a distance of 15 km from Rudnja. At the center of jewish religious movement of hasidizm. Nowadays Jews-hasids from all over the world come to Lubavichi, as they think this place to be saint. The unique Church of the Assumption of our Lady, built in the style of the west European borokko of the middle of the XVIII century, is preserved here too.
